Using TAACCCT Grants to Develop and Expand Innovative Training

The Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grant program provided $1.9 billion to enhance college career training. An Abt evaluation of the final round of grants found that after 15 months, half of participants in programs selected for an outcomes study completed training, three quarters were employed, earnings improved, and the percentage in poverty declined.

Mortality and Risk Factors of Disease in Nepal

A tenth of the total deaths in Nepal in 1990 was attributed to five major metabolic risk factors: high systolic blood pressure, high total cholesterol, high fasting plasma glucose, high body mass index and impaired kidney functions. This analysis of risk factors in Nepal projected that non-communicable diseases will contribute to over two-thirds of total deaths in 2040.
